Waston plays it by sheer intuition

After driving it inside the rough for the sixth hole, he found his ball behind a tree. So he aimed 40 yards right and launched a towering slice that plopped down 7 feet through the hole for another birdie.

"Who doesn't draw up this way?" Watson cracked. "The sad thing is I saw that within my head."

The lines in the head weren't nearly as crazy since the numbers on the scorecard. Watson piled up nine birdies and an eagle to finish using a 10-under 62 to look at 36-hole lead on the Cadillac Championship at 12 under.

Watson can start to play the sport while using unbridled glee of a kid sometimes, which can be equal parts entertaining or alarming, based on the state of his game. Or his brain. He could function as sport's biggest savant since John Daly, another guy who played aggressively, drew up strategy within the dirt and was then a tremendous throng of devotees.

Playing partner Justin Rose, who shot a scorching 64 of his very own Friday, was fighting himself throughout the day, trying to decide whether to watch Watson or stay in his very own Taylormade R11 irons cocoon. Watson may be the golf equal of rubber-necking if the police lighting is flashing somewhere.

"You can't watch him, many of the lines he will be taking off tees can suck you right into a false sense of security," Rose said, laughing. "He's reducing doglegs, as well as me it's not doable."

"He's pursuing it, and fun to watch," Rose said. "Obviously they have great control away from Bermuda [grass], too, and he's 60, 80 yards through the green, and he isn't scared to permit it bounce several times and allow it rollup on the green. He has great hands and can work the ball."

As is also the case at East Lake Club in Atlanta, Watson struggles to visualise his shots at Doral because of the Bermuda grass that populates the entire course. Fairways meld into rough, the rough morphs into greens and it's the same color. Fairways usually are not defined, greens don't "pop" in their mind's eye. For the player who admits she has attention-deficit issues, it's a fight to dial in.

But brother, as he latches on involving the ears, it may produce some incredible stuff. Watson estimates that they has Taylormade R11 driver shot 59 about Ten times during practice rounds and shot a 58 last Dec. 30 in the Estancia Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was coolly Tweeting play-by-play during the last few holes in the latter.

"This could seem like a form of stupid thing to say, nevertheless it almost seems normal for him to travel out and do what he did," said his caddie, Ted Scott, that has seen Watson blowtorch a series of courses used over time.

"He seems to make a couple of birdies whenever he is relaxed," Scott said. "But for this course, with this wind, that has been impressive. He's obviously not scared to be shooting low numbers."

With Watson and Rose amassing 17 birdies as well as an eagle, pity another an affiliate their group, Mark Wilson, who shot a 2-under 70 that under most circumstances would have been a pretty fair effort. Rose described Wilson as "black and blue."

Due to the impressive variety of physical skills he produces in work every single day, Watson said she has been working on discount golf clubs increasing the mental side of the game -- he doesn't use coaches, for his brain or his swing, and never has.

As is also usually case, he made a joke of it. Any self-respecting shrink might have him fitted for the straitjacket.
